There’s a lot of discourse around Toronto culture - the good and bad exists in big cities, and Toronto IRL is a space that aims to solve the loneliness problem.

The main points of contention were:

  • 🥺 Loneliness: it can be hard to meet new people and make friends

  • 🎨 Interests: there’s not a lot to do outside of going out to restaraunts

  • 💸 Cost of Living: this ties into the above - with every social plan revolving around going out to eat/drink (and Toronto restaraunts are not cheap) and the rising cost of living, people are forced to spend more time alone.

Toronto IRL aims to solve this problem by:

  • Amplifying the reach of local businesses - there is cool stuff happening in the city, it’s just hard to get the word out.

  • Highlighting both paid and free events

  • Showcasing events beyond what your algorithm will serve you (@meta @tiktok i want more than just aesthetic lifestyle content!)

This is probably the most important part of this page - we are a curated list of events/communities in the city:

As an independent publication, Toronto IRL is focused on giving you quality options that we hope will allow you to experience something unique and hopefully outside of your comfort zone. Experiences that inspire you beyond the event, and have more fun IRL.

We won’t be the newsletter where you’ll find every thing that’s happening in the city, and that might mean we’re not the right source for everyone! We do have pages that highlight events beyond what’s covered in each weekly edition.

We’re a new publication which means we’ll be focused on putting things out and iterating fast based on feedback. If you have any feedback, you can share it by replying to any of our editions (it’ll only get to us, we promise!)

That’s all for now, see you in your inbox 💌
