pop-up restos, a fun fair, and parallel play
Hi Friends,
Happy Thursday! As Toronto IRL has gotten some initial traction (2k+ subs 👀), people have started to ask what my why is. This tweet sums it up perfectly:

All of the micro communities and IRL experiences popping up are just the beginning. There’s lots of passionate humans working to solve the problems that exist, but Toronto people are my favourite part of this city. The diversity, the passion, the creativity, the drive - and Toronto IRL exists to amplify efforts to bring different humans together.
This weeks curation includes something extra special if you want something to do outside of attending events (🦋👀.)
P.S. reading online allows you to navigate between sections a lot easier.

🍽️ a memorable resto experience
Recently I’ve been really into pop-up/residency style food experiences. I love a good resto moment, but the impermanence of a pop-up just brings in a different crowd and the food feels a lot more intentional and thoughtful. Pop-up restaurants usually serve up the best of the best; and this one feels extra special because it features Pakistani/South Asian classics (I’m Pakistani!)

💌 The TLDR: Jamil’s aims to fill the gap in representation for South Asian cuisine in casual fine dining settings. Taking inspiration in everything from Bollywood disco and Mughal architecture, to Dhaba street food and menu flyers from Little India’s all over North America; at its core, Jamil’s is a homebase for misfit brown kids connecting back to their roots.
